Dear Geno,
This newsletter is a gift from the Chico Corsa Cycling
Club. Our hope is that we inspire you to help Chico
become a better cycling town than it already is. If you
love cycling and would like to improve your speed and
endurance or you want to race or simply see
racing back in Chico, join us at one of our monthly club
meetings and meet others with similar interests.

A Word from the President

Fear; Motivator or Immobilizer?
Fear is strange. We buy insurance because we fear
what might happen. Sales people use "fear of loss"
as a closing tool. For most of us, this is the only fear
we face. For others, fear is far more intrusive. There
are people who will never see an exotic place for fear
of flight. There are people who will never see a live
ball game or concert for fear of crowds. And some will
never love again for fear of a broken heart. Yet others
will not reach the pinnacle of success for fear of being
a failure.

The Foolish Race
|
|
By David Albrecht
People like to reminisce about their good races and
the smart decisions they made, but few want to recall
their truly foolish ones. I too would rather forget my
mistakes, but if you don't think about them from time to
time and try to learn from them you are doomed to
repeat them.
My race of shame was the Redding Classic. It was a
late season race and Terry and I were coming off a
first and second place finish at the Cal-Cup the week
before. This was Terry's hometown race and I told him
I would do everything possible to help him, especially
after all the help he had given me during the previous
three weeks of racing for the Cal-Cup title.

Meetings:
The next Corsa Club Meeting will be at Woodstocks
Pizza on Friday April 3rd at 6PM.
Announcements:
Mark Woodson has setup a Bikely account for the
Corsa Group to map their favorite rides to share with
the local cycling community. His goal was to provide
an opportunity to create, post and access local routes
that have been vetted by our cycling community and
are easily searchable. He hopes to see your favorite
Chico road and mountain bike routes posted as well
as good rides in the Paradise/Oroville/Orland areas.
Please don't show routes from your house or other
private locations, but use common starting points like
the Chico airport, One Mile Park, Rosedale School, the
Fairgrounds and other known starting locations.
For those who wish to login and map a ride the
username is: chicobikely and the password
is: chicobike. The address is: here.

Criterium Season
Hi All, Coach Mike here...
As the informal local crits and big races get started, I
decided to re-post the article 'It's Crit Season!' this
month. Whether you read it last year or not, I hope
you'll take the time to read it this year. Those that
haven't read it will benefit, but those that have read it
may get even more from it. Now that you may have
doing some of the crits (or even just read the crit race
reports posted by other team members), it's likely
you'll get more new insights from it. Pay attention to
the diagrams... especially the "Pick your line in a pack"
one. I'm willing to bet that you have come across
someone taking the wrong line in the middle of the
pack. Hopefully someone else hasn't seen YOU doing
just that!!

Eat to Ride, or Ride to Eat?
|
|
By Mark Bloom
Reading Dave A.'s funny piece last month on roadside
food got me thinking about all the memorable food
and drink I've had on some past rides. Strange, but
although I spent a career in four-star restaurants and
ate and drank like a king, pretty much all of my favorite
food and drink ride memories are about very simple
things. I'm sure you have your own list; here's
mine:

Cross Country Tour Part Two
|
|
by Janine Rood
Part two of Janine's journal/emails from her ride
across the United States.
We're settling in for the long haul on Hwy 2. We'll be
on it through Washington, Idaho (briefly!), Montana,
and North Dakota. Today was an easy day. We
needed some recovery! We started at around 9, and
finished before 2:30 (well, actually, Dave finished quite
a bit before me, as it was mostly all uphill or
downhill... I'm a little bit faster than him on the
downhill (only because my bike is heavier, of course!),
but he is ALOT faster than me on the uphills... So
we're going to try something a little different tomorrow
(it's another climbing / descending day... Dave tells me
we're in the Rockies now!) .. I'm going to leave a little
earlier, Dave's going to sleep in, and we're going to
see if we can arrive approximately together. Will let
you know how that goes.
