Dear Geno,
As the summer winds down our
preparation for the Sierra Nevada Chico Downtown
Criterium winds up. With the need of over 100
volunteers, your help is crucial. Please follow the link
to the volunteer survey so we can get your contact
information and your tee-shirt size.
This newsletter is a gift from the Chico Corsa Cycling
Club. Our hope is that we inspire you to help Chico
become a better cycling town than it already is. If you

A Word from the President

A Change in Perspective
I quit bike racing.
I thank God I was 50 miles from a car ride home.
A few of us from the team meandered up to the
Cascade Classic to make some noise. Mike Ricks
and I raced it last year. Mike took 2nd in the GC so we
thought with a stronger presence we could do some
damage. I would be of little help in the GC efforts, but I
love racing with those guys.

Coaches Desk
|
|
By Mike Trowbridge
Hi All... The hot (and smoky) days of summer are
*really* here! In the last few months "From the
Coaches Desk" I talked about my cramping problem
and the article I found dealing with cramping issues,
prevention and treatment. It's from the "The Science of
Sport" (which is Scientific Comment and Analysis of
Sports and Sporting Performance). It's a pretty long
article so I decide to break it into several parts. Below
is Part 3 (part 1 & 2 were in the June and July issues
of the Chico Corsa Cycling Club Newsletter, if you
want to go back for them).
I'm at a loss as to why I get cramps. In the last
Messilla Circuit Race BOTH my hamstrings cramped
up at the same time on the last lap.

Fall/Winter Hill Climb Time Trial Series
Hi Everyone! So, the Chico Corsa Cycling Club is
looking at doing a Fall/Winter Hill Climb Time Trial
Series this year, with the climbs and dates below.
There was a similar Series done years ago here in
Chico - 1981 or 1982 - by Tom Devol and Jeff Smith,
who owned Cyclesport bike shop at the time. And, of
course, now there is that almost-famous Low Key
Hillclimb Series in the Bay Area every fall. In any case,
we decided to have our own and revive the old
Chico Series.......with a couple of route changes.
Below is a list of the tentative events with dates. It
should be mentioned that these dates could change
depending upon Galland Cross, the Cutty Series and
Tyler Cross dates this fall/winter. And, of course......the
weather! Rain will not cancel - but snow and ice will.

Chico Corsa Race Team

Having a great season
Morgan Bonar has been placing in about every race
she enters. As a result The CAT 4 womans team has
moved into the top 5 in the Best All Around Team
competition. As for the Guys, they are holding steady
at 7th in the CAT 3
We had a great day at Nevada City watching 8 local
racers take to the epic race. And hats off to Lindsay
Myers for winning the women's CAT 3 race and Mike
Cordova for a solid 6th in the men's CAT 3.

Chico Corsa Gives Back
|
|
Messilla Valley Circuit Race
To everyone who contributed to the fundraiser on
Saturday for the fire relief efforts... THANK YOU! Your
contributions individually amounted to us being able
to raise over $400 to assist the American Red Cross
and Butte Creek Canyon Volunteer Firefighters. Your
generosity and assistance was very moving.
A special thank you to North Rim who contributed
raffle prizes for the event. Their willingness to assist in
the efforts speaks volumes for their commitment to
the cycling community at large.
I tried to get around to thank everyone individually,
personally... if I missed you, please know that
donation will be well used and put tothe good of both
organizations.
Thanks again and I will see you on the road...
