Dear Geno,
The Wildflower is over. To me... that means that
summer is officaly here. So, if you have been waiting
for the warmer weather before you get serious, it's
here. So to quote Freddie Mercury "Get on your bike
and ride."
This newsletter is a gift from the Chico Corsa Cycling
Club. Our hope is that we inspire you to help Chico
become a better cycling town than it already is. If you

Worlds Apart
Because I am in a pinch for time (I would have liked
this newsletter to have gone out 11 days ago) I want to
share something a friend sent me that I find very
interesting. I share a quick thought about it at the
end.

Coaches Desk

By Mike Trowbridge
Hi All, Coach Mike here...
It's Crit Season!
First of all, let me say that the purpose of this article is
to take the scariness out of cornering. I want you to
feel comfortable on your bike (or at the very least not
take me/us down with you).
Hopefully, you'll read this article a few times and come
out to the Tuesday night Practice Crits and put it all
together. Not only will the practice help you in your
races it will increase your confidence and skills for
every day riding... Whether flying down a hill solo or in
a pack.
So, the basics of cornering are really simple. Every
corner has an entry, an exit, and an apex. The path
that "you" take thru the corner is, for better or worse, is
your "line."

Cat 3, Cat 4 and the newest addition Woman Cat 4.
Not bad for a club our size. In fact, we are the
smallest club in the top standings.
In addition to that Chico racers from other teams have

Chico Criterium Needs Sponsors!
|
|
The Chico Criterium will be held in September again
this year. Although that might seem a long way off,
now is the time for us to start thinking seriously about
sponsorships. Whether you race or not, we need your
help to find sponsors and get them signed up, so we
can make the event even more of a success than last
year!
We are forming a sponsorship committee to work on
getting a broad range of sponsorships, and there are
a variety of ways you can participate:
1) Identifying potential sponsors: if you know
someone who might be interested in sponsoring
(maybe your employer, a family member, friend or
neighbor), you can approach them yourself (we have a
nice 'sponsorship benefits' hand-out you can give
them) or you can tell us who they are and we will
approach them.
2) Approaching potential sponsors: We can give you a
list of potential sponsors to approach, and
the 'sponsorship benefits' hand-out, and see how
many sponsors you can 'sign up.'
3) Following up with sponsors to collect
money or donated items.
4) Helping to manage our sponsor tracking
spreadsheet: We are keeping a single spreadsheet
with all sponsors and their status, and we could use a
person to manage the spreadsheet.
We've already made some progress - we currently
have over $13,000 in sponsorship funds committed,
including Sierra Nevada for $7500 and the Title
Sponsorship. We need more lower-level 'cash'
sponsors and we need to work on them now. As the
race day approaches, we'll need to put in lots of effort
to secure donations and cash for 'Primes' to be given
away during the races, as well as food and beverage
donations for all the workers on race day. Finally, just
prior to the race, we'll need help collecting and
organizing the Primes.
If you can help, please contact Linda Zorn
(zornli@butte.edu) or Janine Rood
(janinerood@sbcglobal.net) as soon as you can.
Thanks!
