Fast 50
My first exposure to Chico Cycling was in 1991. (I
lived here for almost 2 years before going back to
Sacramento in '92.) I had an apartment in California
Park - so not knowing the roads, I would solo up
Humboldt or Hwy 32 never going past the
intersection of the two.
One day I finally asked someone at one of the bike
shops if there were any group rides. I was told there
was a group that rode out of One Mile at 6:00pm on
Wednesdays. So the next Wednesday I showed up
on my beautiful Campy Nuovo Record equipt
Colnago. I was wearing cycling shorts & shoes, but
just a tee-shirt from a race I did in '85. No helmet.
Back then, the Fast 50 was a Chico Velo club ride and
helmets were required. I pitched an argument about
riding on public streets - they shrugged their
shoulders and off we went.
It had been a while since I had ridden with a group
and... More

Sunday, September 23, 2007
We have been working on the preparation of this race
since October 2006. Until now it was just something
we wanted to do for Chico. Now, with it only a little
over 3 months away, the pressure increases but the
excitement overshadows the stress.
One of the things we wanted was a race logo and
here it is. We love it and hope you do also. A special
thanks to Christian Burke of Tri-Counties Bank for his
great work. We are planning a great day for Chico
and
we will need some help come race day. If any of you
would like to volunteer, mark the date on your
calendars now and we will give contact instructions at
a later time.
Thanks for your support.
Check out the course.

"Why Does My Neck Hurt While Riding?"
|
|
By James Plummer
As a physical therapist, this question gets thrown in
my direction more than any other. And for good
reason, cycling is just not easy on our necks. When
you break down the position we assume for our
necks, even on the best-fit bicycles (recumbents
excluded), the answer becomes clear. So I wanted to
offer a few tips on how we prevent our necks from
aching and what we can do to remedy them. Please
take these tips with the understanding that these are
general tips and specific problems should, of course,
be addressed by your health professional.
The neck is a marvelous model of movement.
Containing seven bones (referred to as C1 through
C7), the neck provides us the ability to scan our
surroundings, communicate, breathe and absorb
vibrations so our eyeballs...More

Chico Time Trials
|
|
By Rodney Cox
We're fortunate to be living in an area where time trials
occur on a monthly and, sometimes weekly, basis.
Currently, Chico has 2 Time Trials per month taking
place out on River Road(5 miles out, 5 miles back),
and 2 per month on Aguas Frias Road(40 kilometer
distance). In addition, there are many "Race of Truth"
opportunities in the coming months - including the
Cohasset Uphill, Cohasset Downhill, Forest Ranch,
Humboldt Road, Centerville, North Rim and the Jack &
Jill Time Trial.
For more information on these
time trials, contact Rodney Cox at
