Dear Geno,
logo

Welcome to the December issue of Chico Cycling. The weather may not benefit your cycling pleasure but Current World champ Larry Nolan and comedic X 7-11/Motorola cycling stud Bob Roll should make you smile. Yes two cycling stars are coming to Chico in December. Be sure to read the details so you don't miss the fun.

If you love cycling and would like to improve your speed or endurance or you want to race or just see racing back in Chico, attend one of our monthly club meetings and meet others with interests like yours. Chico Corsa wants to bring cyclists together.

Chico Corsa members have an advantage...Click here to see.

Every month I get more excited about the future of Chico cycling. At our November club meeting we had over 30 people show up. There were no special guests, and there was not an important topic that everyone needed to hear. People showed up just to hang out and talk cycling. It was great fun.

In addition to talking cycling, we like to ride. However, this weather can make that a bit unpleasant. As I write this, it is Saturday morning. I was looking forward to a club ride lead by Mike Peave. It is raining and the streets are soaked. I think I am going to hope for better weather tomorrow. Maybe I'll shop for a rain bike.

What is fun about this time of year is all the cool new stuff I get. The new Chico Corsa Kits are in...if only looks could races... and Christmas is just around the corner. I wonder if my beautiful bride told Santa about my desire for a pair of Ksyrium ES's?

I love this sport. Ride safe, we'll see you out there. Geno

Larry Nolan
Friday, December 1st at 6:00. Join us at Mountain Mikes Pizza on Mangrove in the back room. Special guest speaker Larry Nolan, current Masters Track World Champion and great guy will be at our club meeting to share some of his knowledge of team racing tactics. If you are on our race team you don't want to miss him. If you do not race, his stories of the racing scene or both interesting and entertaining. If you can make it to this meeting, you won't be disappointed.

Chico Corsa Monthly Meeting
Date: Friday December 1st
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Mt. Mikes Pizza, Mangrove back room

If you are interested in riding with Larry, he is going to do a couple of hours on the morning of the meeting. 6:00 to 8:00 AM. So if you are interested in some quality time with a quality guy, I recommend this ride. Yes he is fast.
Bobke's Back for 2006 Holiday Party Save the date, Sunday evening, Dec 3rd in the Big Room at Sierra Nevada Brewery, 1075 E 20th St. Doors open at 6 PM for drinks and appetizers, dinner at 7 and program at 8.

We're thrilled to welcome back OLN TV/Versus bike race commentator Bob Roll. Bob's racing career spanned the 7-11, Motorola years and he continues to entertain us with his bike race commentary at the Tour de France and the Tour of California. $40 for club members, $50 for non members. Pay at the door but RSVP to Ed at 343-8356 or ed@chicovelo.org with the number of people in your party by Friday, Dec 1st.

We have been having a good turn out for the Sunday rides. You could expect 20 (give or take a few) riders for planed base training. These LSD (Long Steady Distance) rides are the best rides for getting to know other riders. There are some great people of all levels.

Chico Corsa will be meeting at 9:00 am on Sundays departing from One Mile. We will start the LSD rides in November and increase the distance and time each week. The rides are at a mellow pace, usually under 20 mph and we stay together. We do have sprints for those who wish to participate.

These are some of the best group rides of the year. Please join us.
Our beloved Rodney Cox has accepted a job with Chico Velo. He will be on staff to assist Ed as the event planner. He is still the treasurer of Chico Corsa and he helps me plan events as well.
Rodney thinks it will be fun to hammer up Humbolt Rd with a New Years hang over. The details are not final but I wanted to mention that there is an option to football and polar bear swimming.

Details will be posted on the Chico Corsa web site when they are complete. They will also be included in the next issue of Chico Cycling.

If you want to invite others to your weekly group ride, let me know and I will include it in this news letter and post it on the Chico Corsa Calendar. Just use the terrain and ability scale that Chico Velo uses when describing your ride.

Sincerely,

Geno Gruber
