Dear Geno,

Why am I getting this newsletter? Because you are a cyclist in the Chico area and I have your e-mail. Also, I think that Chico is the greatest place on the planet to raise kids and ride bikes. We have a great bunch of people in our community that love cycling at many levels and this is a way to bring us together.

If you love cycling and would like to improve your speed or endurance or you want to race or just see racing back in Chico, attend one of our monthly club meetings and meet others with interests like yours. Chico Corsa wants to bring cyclists together.

I have written you before about how special I think the Chico cycling community is. Well... It goes deeper then that (no pun intended) A stranger, Darryl Smith offered is home to CJ and I while we were in Pleasanton for a cycling camp. We politely declined but the next day while riding with him I learned that we had made a mistake in not getting to know him better. What a great guy.

We also got the pleasure of riding with Larry Nolan the current Masters Track World Champion. Another quality guy. I asked him what it would take to get him to Chico to chat with Chico Corsa during one of our club meetings. He said yes without hesitation. The December meeting is looking like it will be a special one.

The weekend was not limited to just these guys. There were 25 other cyclists from all sorts of backgrounds living in different parts of Northern California. It is amazing how quickly people can bond when they are passionate about cycling.

I love this sport.

A big thanks To Charlie, Michelle & Rodney. I know they had some more help and I am embarrassed to say I do not know who they are. This year was a blast.

I took a two day class on "Advanced Racing Skills and Tactics" It was a great time and I did learn a couple of things. Mostly I learned how we can have some good skills practices.

You may not know this but Mike Peavy is considered by some to be the most experienced road racer in Chico. He has raced as a Cat 1 racer with many wins. He has also raced at the Olympic trials twice. This is great for you because he is going to assist me in putting on some skills classes. We will start at a basic level and move in later weeks to advanced skills. Watch the Chico Corsa calendar for the dates.

You may have read that LSD will cause you to hallucinate and sell everything you own to follow the Grateful Dead tour. I want you to consider this; LSD (Long Steady Distance) rides build the base you will need for the coming season. The Wildflower will be a cake walk when you are putting in the miles over the winter.

Chico Corsa will be meeting at 9:00 am on Sundays departing from One Mile. We will start the LSD rides in November and increase the distance and time each week. The rides are at a mellow pace, usually under 20 mph and we stay together. We do have sprints for those who whish to participate.

These are some of the best group rides of the year. Please join us.
Please join the fun and be at Mountain Mikes Pizza on Mangrove on Friday the 3rd of November at 6:00 pm. We get together talk cycling and club stuff. All are welcome.

If you want to invite others to your weekly group ride, let me know and I will post it for you. Just use the terrain and ability scale that Chico Velo uses when discribing your ride.

Sincerely,

Geno Gruber
