Tom Embree, Mike Crumm (pictured to the right) & Dave Kyle represented Chico Corsa at the Napa Valley Dirt Classic in the worst weather the race has seen in 17 years. Here's a portion of Tom's race report:
The race started with a mild little climb, nice to put a little heat in the engine and just get going. Over the course of the race we experienced mud mud mud and more mud, some more mud with steep climbs and more mud on steep rutted slick descents. Most of the course was like riding in a couple inches of cake batter, although the taste was much worse. Some sections were deep rutted and some firm but slick as..,well slick. One saving grace was taking tree limbs to the face and washing a bit of mud out of the eyes with pine needles and clean rain water, the rain alone did a pretty good job. I found most of the climbs and descents easier to ride in the water flowing down the trail, this helped keep the drivetrain clean as well as offered a base a bit less slick. The cold and wet were relentless, hands bitter cold, toes numb and just as you would warm a bit, there would be a descent with deep water at the bottom just to ensure you didn't have any warmth left. At the top of the monster climb the course marshal said just 1.5 miles to go, wrong, about 5 miles and a few more climbs I was cooked. After 2 hours 22 minutes I was back at the truck in one piece - good enough effort for around 10th in Cat 2 Single Speed.
Both Tom and Mike were able to get all the mud and grime washed off in a couple days. They seemed to have stopped shivering when we saw them on the Fast 50 on Wednesday. Nice work fellas.
